  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 1 package ladyfinger cookies
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings, for garnish


  1. In a heatproof bowl, whisk together egg yolks and granulated sugar over a double boiler until thick and pale. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  2. Add mascarpone cheese to the egg yolk mixture and blend until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.
  4. In a shallow dish, combine brewed espresso and coffee liqueur (if using).
  5. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture and layer them at the bottom of a serving dish.
  6. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  7. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, allowing the flavors to meld.
  9. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings.
