  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 2 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar (for sprinkling)


  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Add the cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Sprinkle ice water over the dough and mix until it comes together. Divide the dough into two equal portions, shape them into discs, and wrap them in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
