Sushi Roll Tutorial at Home

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 4 sheets of nori seaweed

  1. Start by preparing sushi rice according to the package instructions and let it cool to room temperature.
  2. Place a bamboo sushi rolling mat on a clean surface and cover it with plastic wrap.
  3. Place a sheet of nori, shiny side down, on the plastic-covered mat.
  4. Wet your hands to prevent sticking and evenly spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving about half an inch at the top edge.
  5. Add your favorite fillings in the center of the rice.
  6. Gently lift the bamboo mat’s edge closest to you and start rolling the nori, rice, and fillings away from you, pressing lightly to seal the roll.
  7. Continue rolling until you reach the exposed nori edge, dampen it slightly to seal the roll completely.
  8. Repeat the process for the remaining nori sheets and fillings.
  9. Using a sharp knife dipped in water, slice the sushi rolls into bite-sized pieces.
  10. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi.
